Molly Johnson Stracuzzi: Simple ways to organize a laundry room
14.07.11
I absolutely love our little Florida home, but there are a handful of things I would change about it if I could.
The first is the laundry "room." Like most homes built around here in the 1970s, our washer and dryer were thrown in a corner of the garage. And like most homeowners, our garage fills up with bikes, surfboards, furniture, projects and life at record speeds, despite my best efforts.
I often find myself clearing a path just to get to our clean clothes.
Most of the year I'm fine with our laundry set-up, but as the weather turns warmer, I'm quickly reminded of how much I dislike doing laundry in an unorganized oven — especially at 7 months pregnant.
So, bear with me as I dream of matching machines and sufficient storage. Here's my list of things I can't wait to change:
Washer and Dryer: Simple enough, but I'd opt for one of the energy efficient, super-sized sets. I'm a believer in large laundry loads.
Work space: Because we are tight on floor space, I would like to mount a piece of butcher block atop the front load washer and dryer to create a large work space for folding clothes, sorting colors, and storing soaps and such.
