The best and the biggest head to Texas for South West International Boat Show

Daily said that GEICO’s support also shows recognition of the stability of the economy in Texas. Daily said that GEICO’s attention to Texas is due to the state’s buoyant economy — pun intended.

GEICO’s presence at the show will include the Miss GEICO Racing Team, who will be signing autographs and presenting two of their offshore powerboats, the Caveman and Miss GEICO, one of the fastest offshore powerboats in the world.

The show will feature more than 400 types of boats including large sail boats, sport fish boats, power boats and luxury yachts.

“The difference between this boat show and a convention center boat show is the opportunity to showcase very large boats and a wide variety of boats,” Daily said.

According to Daily, accessibility to the water allows presenters to feature boats of over 80 feet in length, something that would not been seen in a convention center.

Also new to the show are the “Best in Show” awards which will be presented to boat exhibitors. The award categories include best in water display, best on shore display and best booth award.

PORTLAND, Maine — Dodge Morgan, the first American to sail solo around the globe without stopping, has died of cancer. He was 78.

Morgan, who died Tuesday at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, turned his small marine radar company into the successful Whistler brand of detectors before sailing around the world. Hobbs Funeral Home in Portland is handling the arrangements and confirmed the death.

He set a record in 1986 when he completed the solo sail in his 60-foot American Promise in 150 days, 1 hour and 6 minutes, beating the previous record holder, British sailor Chay Blyth, who took 292 days to accomplish the same feat in 1971.
